Inspired by the beauty of Wyoming's wild landscapes and the many relationships that sustain them, the Earth + Bone earrings weave together deep evergreen greens, soft sage, warm ivory, and subtle touches of orange, with a slender piece of bison bone at the center of each weaving.

Long before highways and fences divided the American West, millions of bison roamed its grasslands, shaping the very landscapes they inhabited. Through their grazing, movement, and even the shallow depressions they leave behind as they roll in the earth, these magnificent animals help create conditions for a diversity of grasses, wildflowers, insects, and other wildlife to thrive.

For many Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and surrounding regions, bison have long been relatives, providers, and an integral part of cultural and spiritual life. Their meat nourished families, their hides offered warmth and shelter, and their bones became tools, adornments, and other useful things. So much of the animal could be honored and put to use.

Part of The Great West collection, lovingly created during a summer spent traveling through Wyoming, Montana, and eastern Washington. This pair was made in northwestern Wyoming, on lands with longstanding connections to the Eastern Shoshone, Shoshone-Bannock, and many other Indigenous peoples.

Hand-woven with high-quality Miyuki glass beads, natural thread, bison bone, and 18K gold-plated sterling silver (925) earwires. Only the good stuff. :)

25% of proceeds from this pair are donated to the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, an Indigenous-led organization working to restore buffalo to tribal lands, revitalize cultural relationships with these animals, and support the ecological health of the Wind River Reservation.
